Here's that Lost finale post. A long-ass summary with a couple of videos, followed by my own rambling at the end. (HOLY FUCK THIS GOT LONG SHE SAYS AFTER SCROLLING BACK UP AFTER TYPING IT ALL)
It was an emotional rollercoaster. An honest to God emotional rollercoaster. I was live posting, IRCing, excited, exhilarated to the point where it felt like it was a million degrees in the house and every commercial break was spent trying to catch my breath again. After it was over I had a few quiet hours of ONTD comm and forum posting, but they were somewhat solemn after-hours. It was so weird, after a little over 5 years of being so into this amazing series, that there was nothing more. No more "IT NEEDS TO BE NEXT WEEK ALREADY!" or no more wondering how it's all gonna come to an end.
I still remember flicking through channels and stumbling across Do No Harm. Where Claire has Aaron and where Boone dies. I remember being super intrigued, so downloading the whole series and catching up just in time for the end of season 1. From there it was crazy funtime following every week. And every new season!
The retrospective was enough wow. The opening alone with the most epic footage and epic music was enough to set the mood for the night. So emotional!! It was a great watch before the end, because you think back and you lol or you go OMG BEST EVER and I cracked up when they showed the toolbox and Jack.

Onto the finale itself.
Well the recap was just fun. "Hey Ben when I'm gone the island is all yours!" Later: "I'M DESTROYING THIS FUCKING ISLAND." Poor Ben is getting really mixed messages from FakeLocke. Also, Richard and LaPenis are still assumed dead. MY HEART BROKEN INTO A MILLION PIECES. Jack is drinking Jacob's pee water and has now leveled up to his status. Which is totally Jackop. Meanwhile in the alt (the flash sideways), Desmond is running over Locke in a wheelchair, beating the fuck out of Ben, and generally being the cause of wacky shenanigans. Whatever this flash sideways is, Desmond now knows about both timelines and is doing shit so people in the alt remember what happened on the island.
In the alt Jack's dad is apparently found, Jack is fixing Locke because Locke is the motherfucking BAMF. Island Jack is just all LOL I'M JACOB NOW. Alt Hurley tranquilizing Charlie was the cutest thing ever. Hurley's BIG GIANT ADORABLE SMILE WHEN HE SEES CHARLIE AGAIN. And then just, tossing him into the back of his car and Sayid is just like WHAT THE FUCK because he doesn't remember yet either.
ROSE BERNARD AND VINCENT FUCK YEAH RESCUING DESMOND FROM THE WELL LIKE MOTHERFUCKING LASSIE. I love Rose and Bernard. THEIR STORY IS JUST SO SIMPLE AND WHEN YOU SEE THEM YOU CAN'T HELP BUT JUST ♥ Island is keeping Rose alive, so they just live there with Vincent and swear to never get involved in all that other crazy ass shit. Of course rescuing Desmond in the rare event that they are helping results in some FakeLocke harassment. BUT THANKFULLY THEY ARE ABLE TO GO BACK TO BEING THEIR AWESOME HOMELIFIN' SELVES when Desmond gets the hell out of there. I WAS SO SCARED FOR THEM THOUGH. Especially after FakeLocke's cutting of the stranger bitch Liz Lemon.
Then omg so cute Ben getting love calls and hiding them from FakeLocke. And it's Miles and RICHARD IS ALIVE OH GLORIOUS DAY and this finale basically turned the ONTD Lost comm into the Miles and Richard OTP comm which I am all for.
JULIET VISITING SUN AND JIN FUCK YES. I love how her showing them their baby is what makes them both remember. Though ... uh. SUPER SAD STILL BECAUSE OF THINGS GONE INTO WHEN I AM DONE WITH THIS SUMMARY BUT OH GOD. ;_; T-the whole montage of the two of them when they both remember had me close to tears. I did lol though because after they remember they're both speaking English again. WHICH IS NORMAL since Jin learned! And I lol'd at Juliet's reaction like "wtf I thought you guys couldn't speak it." BUT JIN HAS NO ACCENT FOR HIS ENGLISH WHICH IS WHAT AND IDEK.
AND THEN AS IF MY HEART IS NOT AFLUTTER ENOUGH FROM RICHARD BEING ALIVE. LAPIDUS IS ALIVE TOO! OH MY CHESTY MANLY LAPENIS. ♥♥ Now we have Miles Richard and LaPenis but SADLY NO BEN because that foursome was my dream. B-but before they find LaPenis was the Miles and Richard moment when you find out RICHARD IS AGING AGAIN AHHHHHHHHHH. Miles just, goes LOL WELCOME TO THE CLUB and yanks a gray hair from Richard's head. And then RICHARD'S REACTION looking at it and then smiling and "I think I just realized I want to live." gkljklgjdkl ♥
Kate trying to shoot FakeLocke, and then he goes "you might want to save your bullets." WHICH IS THE BEST LINE EVER FOR SOMETHING LATER.
And then the anguishing question of BUT WHO WAS MOM is answered in the alt. Jack's son's baby mama is JULIET. His son David just basically popped up in the alt since ... it's the alt! MORE ON THAT LATER.
MEANWHILE IN MAGICAL PEE WATER CAVERN, FakeLocke and Jack tie up Desmond and toss his ass down there. But not before Desmond is just like Jack if I go down there I'm just gonna disappear somewhere else and it'll be with everybody that we love, and not have to think about the island again! SO DES KNOWS ABOUT THIS ALT. But Jack is like dude whatever happened happened, WHICH IS A SCENE THAT IS JUST ... SO POWERFUL FOR WHAT YOU FIND OUT THE END IS. Omg I love Jack and Desmond. And then lol FakeLocke and Jack after lowering him. AND THEY ARE BOTH STARING DOWN INTO THE CAVERN AND IT IS THE SAME SHOT AT THE END OF SEASON 1 WITH THE HATCH AND JKWEHFKS.
Alt Hurley forces Sayid to meet Shannon which is their ~TRUE LOVE MEMORY AWAKENING~ thing. Which, even though it makes sense, I am still :|a about. At first I was totally meh because Shannon was like a blip in the series. And so much of Sayid's thing in the series, in the past present and the alt were focused SO MUCH on Nadia that when Sayid gets all I JUST WANT TO SEE THE WOMAN I LOVE AGAIN you'd assume her. So when it was Shannon it was very ???? I've heard a lot of talk on the subject and I agree that it is more believable when you think about how Nadia was also tied into the past Sayid could never seem to escape while Shannon gave him a chance to really start over and not be linked to something that brings up his dark past. Also random Boone there like "lol hay guys."
When crazy ass Claire came up to the hot sexy ass trio I got SO SCARED FOR RICHARD AGAIN IT WAS LIKE THE WRITERS PURPOSELY PLAY WITH MY HEART. Because of how he is GLARINGLY MORTAL NOW and slowly going up to Claire who has her GUN READY AND BITCH IS CRAYCRAY like girl calm down. I thought it was ADORABLE how Richard tried to talk to her though. IT WAS SO HEARTWARMING.
Alt Charlotte waking Charlie up was just so random and lolworthy because of Hurley's note on his unconscious body. "BASS PLAYER: wake me up for the show." And then her meeting Daniel after that. HE GETS ALL "I KNOW HER BUT..." and they shake hands but NOTHING HAPPENS and then they go on their merry way. Then Eloise talks to Desmond about not wanting him to do this (the whole island memory awakening) and "are you going ... to take my son?" And her voice there and THERE IS REASON FOR THIS TOO AND AUGH and Desmond going "not with me, no." BUT WHERE ARE THEY GOING WHERE ARE THEY "LEAVING" TO ACCORDING TO DES?!
THEN CLAIRE BAYBEH IN THE ALT and I love how basically her vagina is what wakes Kate up. ALT THEM ARE GONNA BE LIKE AARON'S TWO AWESOME SEXY MAMAS TOGETHER it will be adorable. And then after Aaron is born Charlie pops up and HE remembers and it is just such an adorable scene. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF HOW LONG IT'S BEEN SINCE HE DIED BAWWW.
Then Desmond + bad CGI pulling the island plug which makes FakeLocke killable finally. AND THEN EPIC RAINY CLIFFBATTLE SCENE BETWEEN THEM and Jack gets all Mortal Kombat on him with JUMPING FLYING PUNCHES AS THE ISLAND STARTS TO CRUMBLE. AND MEANWHILE BEN PUSHES HURLEY OUT OF THE WAY OF A FALLEN TREE AND GETS STUCK UNDER IT (BEST FORESHADOWING EVER) OH BEN SOBRAVE and at first I FREAKED THE FUCK OUT HERE because if Ben was dying I was crying. BUT THANKFULLY THAT WAS NOT THE CASE \o/
So they catch up to the EPIC CLIFF FIGHT and when FakeLocke told Kate "you might want to save your bullets" LOL BITCH SHOOTS HIM AND GOES "I SAVED YOU A BULLET :|" Then in an AWESOME CIRCLE. Jack, like FakeLocke did to Jacob, kicks him doooooown to his death.
Alt Locke wakes up from surgery and ... just him/walking OTP man he feels his legs and wiggles his toes and WE GET THE PILOT EPISODE FLASH OF HIM FIRST REALIZING AND AHHHHH LOCKE ILU. And alt Jack as usual lol MEMORIES TRYING TO GET YOU BUT YOU ARE SO STUBBORN. And Locke being like BUT YOU DON'T HAVE A SON JACK. POOR ALT DAVID. But omg original Locke's adorable sweet smile sdjklfklfhsjfsjkl.
Alt Sawyer still doesn't have his memories back and when he goes to bodyguard Jin and Sun ... THEIR GIANT HAPPY SMILES AT HIM OH MY GOD ADORABLE. He is just like u-uh what and they are just like :DDDDDDDD. It is super cute esp for Jin because of the whole 70s Dharma parties they had together! ;_;
And then lol Miles LaPenis and Richard trying to get the Ajira plane ready. LAPENIS GETTING THE WALKIE CALLS FROM BEN AND GOING "DON'T BOTHER ME >(((" AND HANGING UP ON THEM ROFL. Ben is just like "... sounds like they're making progress." And then sob Jack saying he has to go fix the plug Desmond took out to fix the quickly crumbling island and telling the rest of them they have to be on that plane and get out. Basically KATE AND JACK RABU RABU FOREVER MOMENT. And shaking Sawyer's hand and omg after all the stuff between them it was so very "omg this is it and it's so perfect! ;;" BUT THEN HURLEY NOT LEAVING JACK'S SIDE WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER. And Ben's "if the island's going down I'm going down with it." So Kate and Sawyer rush to the other island to meet up with the sexy plane guys, while we have the oddest but GREATEST team of Jack, Hurley and Ben head back to the heart of the island.
Then Miles' "I don't believe in a lot of things. But I DO believe in duct tape." ♥♥ And Sawyer calling up on the walkie again like "HEY CHESTY" and LaPenis is STILL just like "YEAH OK WE'RE LEAVING SO GET YOUR ASSES OVER HERE [THROWS WALKIE!!1!]"
AND THEN ALT SAWYER AND JULIET AHHHHHHH. That scene was amazing and it starts out SO DOOFY with Sawyer caught with his hand in the vending machine. And the candy bar and the CONTACT AND MEMORY FLASHES and the EXPRESSIONS WHEN JULIET'S DEATH FLASHES and omg. "YOU GOT IT BLONDIE."
Then alt Kate and Jack meeting. And Kate's "I've missed you so much." and Jack's STILL resisting the flashes. And Kate talks him into coming with her to help him remember and figure out what's going on here.
THE AWESOME TRIO make it back to the magical pee water heart of the island,and omg BEST. SCENE. EVER. Jack basically tells Hurley he's not planning on coming out alive, and Hurley is like D: I AM NOT LETTING YOU DIE YOU SAID YOU'D PROTECT THE ISLAND. And Jack's THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I AM DOING THIS HAS TO HAPPEN and Hurley the island needs you. SO BASICALLY HE IS PASSING ON THE RITE TO HURLEY. TO HURLEY ALL OF MY DREAMS COMING TRUE. And Hurley's crying in this scene and him and Jack sdjkfafhjk it was so heartwatming and heartbreaking at the same time. And Ben is just kind of ... watching this all. BEN, MISTER BASICALLY YOU ARE WORTHLESS IN THE SCHEME OF PROTECTING OR RULING THE ISLAND DESPITE ALL OF YOUR TIME AND LOVE HERE HUR HUR.
Jack gets lowered into the cavern, finds Desmond, and basically ties him to the rope to Hurley and Ben pull him up instead. But not without Jack returning the sentiment "I'll see you in another life, brotha'." omggggg. ;;
Kate and Sawyer find Claire who doesn't want to leave with them because it's been so long and Aaron doesn't know her and how can she ever be a mother because the island literally made her crazy (GURL AT LEAST YOU CAN ADMIT IT) and Kate is basically like let's have a My Two Dads spinoff only with moms. MEANWHILE LAPENIS IS READY TO LAUNCH and calling Richard RICKY BOY. ♥
AND THE PLANE TAKES OFF just as Jack plugs the giant island cork thing back in. EPIC SCENE WITH AWESOME MUSIC. Jack is still all BLARGH I AM DYING as Hurley and Ben pull Desmond up. And yell for Jack when they realize it's not him. Magical light and magical glowing pee water start to flow again as Jack lies in the middle of the pond. The water flows on Jack who is just lying in there laughing, almost deliriously so. Props to Foxy.
IN THE ALT Locke gets out of a cab and into a wheelchair. He's in front of a church and rolls by Ben. Ben basically apologizes for everything he's done to Locke. Admits he was jealous because Locke was special and he wasn't. Then Locke is like if it helps, I forgive you. A-and Ben is like THAT DOES HELP IT MATTERS MORE THAN I CAN SAY. Then he says he has some things to work out still, so he'll stay outside for a while along instead of join everyone inside the church. Then remarks that Locke doesn't need that chair anymore. LOCKE STANDS ansdjkfhasjkfhsdjka and heads into the church. ;;
Back on the island, this was the greatest scene ever. With Desmond up, Ben helps him out as best as he can, while Hurley is just staring into the pee water cavern all sad. AND THE FOLLOWING CONVO TAKES PLACE BETWEEN HURLEY AND BEN.
"Jack's gone ... isn't he."
"... [nods]"
"[starts crying OH GOD IT'S SO HEARTBREAKING]"
"--he did his job, Hugo."
"It's my job now. What the hell am I supposed to do?!"
"... I think you do what you do best. Take care of people. You can start by helping Desmond get home."
"But how? People can't leave the island."
"That's how Jacob ran things. Maybe there's another way. A better way."
"... Will you help me?"
"[BEN GIVES HIM THIS LOOK LIKE ALL OF HIS ARE ABOUT TO COME TRUE] I'm sorry?"
"Could really use someone with like ... experience. For a little while. So will you help me, Ben?"
"[OH GOD ALL OF BEN'S DREAMS ARE COMING TRUE IN THIS MOMENT] I'd be honored."
"... Cool."
SO BASICALLY BEN AND HURLEY ARE GOING TO RULE THE ISLAND TOGETHER AND HAVE AWESOME HAM AND HOT POCKET SHENANIGANS. I MEAN FUCK YOU CAN'T EVEN FULLY IMAGINE THE KIND OF GREAT SHIT YOU WILL GET FROM THESE TWO?! BEN WITH HIS ... NERD BEN-NESS AND HURLEY MAKING HIM WATCH STAR WARS. OH MY GOD THESE TWO NEED A SPINOFF. When the last season comes out on DVD IT'S BEEN CONFIRMED THERE IS LIKE A 15 MINUTE THING WITH THEM POST-FINALE AND I NEED TO SEE THIS LIKE I NEED TO BREATHE.
BACK TO THE ALT Ben is still in front of the church. And Hurley looks out and sees him like "oh hey dude we're all inside." and Ben declines. But before going back in Hurley goes "... you know. You were really good number two." "And you were a great number one, Hugo." ejkfhjkhsjk
ALT JACK AND KATE PULL UP TO THE CHURCH. And Jack is all this is where I was going to have my father's funeral why did you bring me here?" "Because this is where you were going to have your father's funeral." Kate tells him everyone is inside when he's ready to leave.
Island Jack somehow made it out of the pee caves, wakes up all bloody and dying on a rock. Starts making his way somewhere.
Alt Jack goes inside, touches his father's coffin, and all of the island memories come flooding back to him. He opens the coffin and it's empty. "Hey kiddo." lol daddy standing there behind him.
"I don't understand. You died. Then how are you here right now?"
"How are you here?"
Jack pauses, reflects. "I died, too." Starts to cry, and oh my God by this time I am in tears because of how much I wanted to hug Jack (SERIOUSLY THE LAST FEW EPS HE GOT SO FUCKING AWESOME)
Christian just goes "It's okay." and they hug and I LOVE YOUs and jsdfhasjkf Jack sobbing. And then his ARE YOU REAL.
"I'm real. You're real. Everything that's ever happened to you is real. All those people in the church, they're real, too."
"... They're all dead?"
"Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of them before you, some long after you."
"Why are they all here now?"
"Well there is no 'now', 'here.'"
"Where are we, dad?"
"This is a place that you all made together, so that you could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you."
"For what?"
"To remember. And ... let go."
"Kate ... she said we were leaving."
"Not leaving, no. Moving on."
"Where are we going?"
"Let's go find out."
And they go into the church where everybody is. Greeting, hugging, epic music, happy times. Old and familiar faces, Rose Bernard Locke Sawyer Sayid Kate Claire Aaron Charlie Hurley Boone Shannon Sun Jin Juliet Libby Desmond Penny. Jack walks toward them.
ISLAND JACK is still walking through the forest, hunched over, trekking on.
"Alt" Locke comes up to Jack. "We've been waiting for you." More hugs and another island Jack walking flash.
Finally (OH SOB) we see Jack in the bamboo forest he first woke up in in the very first episode (I already guessed how it was ending here and CRIED SO MUCH MORE THAN I ALREADY WAS), you see the white tennis shoe still hanging there. MORE ALT HUGS AND KATE RABU. They all sit down in the church as island Jack slowly sinks and lies in the same spot he woke up at the very start of it all.
Alt everyone else sits down as poor island Jack is like dying. He hears something, and just like in the Pilot, Vincent comes out of the forest. Jack laughs, he gets Vincentkisses. Then Vincent just ... lies down next to Jack quietly sdfjakfhasjkfak. Jack looks up into the sky.
Alt Christian gives Jack a shoulder hold, and then walks to the doors of the church, opening them up to nothing but light that slowly spreads and engulfs them all, as they all hug, smile, generally be happy that they found each other all again. The camera pans out on island Jack and Vincent, and the Ajira plane with everyone on board flows overhead. Jack knows now that they all made it, so he laughs a little, and it's just this ... almost SOBBING laugh. Alt Jack looks peaceful as the light engulfs him, just as on the island, you get one close up shot of Jack's eye, closing.
xjvsjkdsk YOU NEED TO WATCH IT TO FEEL IT.
And I just love the credits. It's complete silence, just showing the original set of the crash to give that finality feeling.
And here is the HURLEY AND BEN BEST EVER SCENE
AND MY THOUGHTS NOW. I was just a ball of djkhgsdjk through the entire thing. I want a Richard and Miles growing old together and being snarky spinoff. Especially because Richard is like CENTURIES OLD Miles needs to like. Show him the ropes of livin' the 20th century life. They can get visits from LaPenis and go on vacations to the island because Hurley will let them in and they can all party with him and Ben sometimes. And Rose and Bernard too since they're still there.
SEE WITH HURLEY AND BEN ROSE BERNARD AND VINCENT that right there is sitcom ammo. I really cannot wait to see all the extra stuff on the DVD about Hurley and Ben!! BEST ISLAND RULERS EVER. I just love Ben ajksdhfkjas.
NOW THE WHOLE ENDING. So like Christian said, everything that happened was real. The island was real and it was there and everything that happened happened. The alt was the form of purgatory where they all waited for one another. WHAT I THINK OF THIS IS ... I think it was a better way to go? The alternative to that was the merging of the timelines. Which had one of two outcomes. Island life or Alt life. So stuff like Jin and Sun DYING, as depressing and NOOOO as it was, would have seemed a lot more cheapened if it were just a case of "oh well lol they're alive in the alt with their island memories now so it doesn't matter that they died." A lot of people expected something like this. and I'm glad they didn't go that route because it WOULD have really cheapened things like the deaths on the island timeline.
In a way Darlton kept their word. They said the island was NOT purgatory, 100%. And it's ... not! Even though it's still in the series in the form of the alt. I thought that tricky and clever.
Kate et all on the Ajira plane made it. And with Christian's "some died long after you" as well as Kate's "I've missed you SO much." to Jack ... she went back home and lived life after that, missing him. ;; Also with Hurley and Ben's exchange in the alt. "You were a good number two/one" is basically saying after that they went on to rule the island awesomely for who knows how long after that.
I love that not EVERYONE was in the church at the end, too. Ben stayed outside, since while Hurley invited him in, and the rest of them would not have minded because of how things wound up being. Ben has a LOT more to deal with. And I think he's waiting for Alex to move on himself. He really needs to resolve what he did in life that resulted in her dying like that.
I loved Eloise's talk with Desmond in the alt there, too. They didn't go with them, and Desmond knew not to interfere. Daniel can't go until Eloise is finished dealing with her issues. Which are PRETTY BIG ISSUES considering she basically knew she was setting up for his death by her own (younger) self years later, and going through with it regardless. So that is probably why Daniel and Charlotte seemed close to remembering, but not quite yet. Because they're their own group that needs to deal and move on together.
What I also really liked was David's existence in the alt, which basically served as ways for Jack to deal with his father issues in order to be able to move on.
What DEPRESSES THE FUCK OUT OF ME about the alt is that it was basically not a second chance or anything. Meaning everything that happened in the series happened. Including things like Sun and Jin dying and their daughter having NO PARENTS, and most tragically for many Lost fans, John Locke's life basically sucking the biggest dick ever. Seriously, Locke is one of the most amazing and tragic characters ever. So many Lost fans, regardless of who their favorites are, seem to agree on this. He was always such a fascinating character, and I loved, I LOVED how Jack basically redeemed everything in his name at the end. Dissing Smokey for wearing his face, knowing he was right all along. It's still so surreal to think that we actually haven't had Locke on the island since the end of season 4. HE'S BEEN DEAD SINCE. And that just makes me :(. THAT THE ALT WASN'T ANOTHER AWESOME LIFE HE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE WIN IN.
Also the thought of Rose and Bernard (or Hurley and Ben OR HELL ALL OF THEM) possibly finding/burying Jack after the end. ;_;
A lot of people are wondering about lack of many other characters in the end there. And lol Lost idk. I CAN ONLY GUESS ABOUT FARADAY AND BEN AND THEIR GROUPS. Though I hope we get some answers when the 6th season DVD comes out since they DID film something with Walt that wasn't in the finale that they're gonna include.
People also wonder about everyone else in the alt who were there on the side. But I more saw that as what Christian was explaining to Jack? "This is a place that you all made together, so that you could find one another." That the environment was basically where they would have been if the plane never crashed, but the people I saw more as not there and looking to move on with them, but more part of this whole 'thing' they all created to find each other. Since they all shared the experiences together, so the familiar faces like Keamy and stuff were there as well as more part of the help, rather than being others that needed the help. Basically NPCs.
I just. Oh God this post is so long already and I am probably FORGETTING THINGS. That whole ending sequence with Jack. And Vincent staying with him and you flashback to the whole "live together die alone" and realize Jack is not dying alone which would have been the saddest thing ever, it was just ... beyond perfect. I can't even put it all into words. You can watch it over and over and it will hit you emotionally every time. The last five years have been so much fun in so many ways, and I am so happy I got to be a part of it all. It's been an amazing journey, and you never want it to be over, but I'm content. A little sad that it's done, but the absolutely amazing ride through it all is enough to make that okay.

I still remember flicking through channels and stumbling across Do No Harm. Where Claire has Aaron and where Boone dies. I remember being super intrigued, so downloading the whole series and catching up just in time for the end of season 1. From there it was crazy funtime following every week. And every new season!
The retrospective was enough wow. The opening alone with the most epic footage and epic music was enough to set the mood for the night. So emotional!! It was a great watch before the end, because you think back and you lol or you go OMG BEST EVER and I cracked up when they showed the toolbox and Jack.
Seriously. Watch the opening to this thing.
Onto the finale itself.
Well the recap was just fun. "Hey Ben when I'm gone the island is all yours!" Later: "I'M DESTROYING THIS FUCKING ISLAND." Poor Ben is getting really mixed messages from FakeLocke. Also, Richard and LaPenis are still assumed dead. MY HEART BROKEN INTO A MILLION PIECES. Jack is drinking Jacob's pee water and has now leveled up to his status. Which is totally Jackop. Meanwhile in the alt (the flash sideways), Desmond is running over Locke in a wheelchair, beating the fuck out of Ben, and generally being the cause of wacky shenanigans. Whatever this flash sideways is, Desmond now knows about both timelines and is doing shit so people in the alt remember what happened on the island.
In the alt Jack's dad is apparently found, Jack is fixing Locke because Locke is the motherfucking BAMF. Island Jack is just all LOL I'M JACOB NOW. Alt Hurley tranquilizing Charlie was the cutest thing ever. Hurley's BIG GIANT ADORABLE SMILE WHEN HE SEES CHARLIE AGAIN. And then just, tossing him into the back of his car and Sayid is just like WHAT THE FUCK because he doesn't remember yet either.
ROSE BERNARD AND VINCENT FUCK YEAH RESCUING DESMOND FROM THE WELL LIKE MOTHERFUCKING LASSIE. I love Rose and Bernard. THEIR STORY IS JUST SO SIMPLE AND WHEN YOU SEE THEM YOU CAN'T HELP BUT JUST ♥ Island is keeping Rose alive, so they just live there with Vincent and swear to never get involved in all that other crazy ass shit. Of course rescuing Desmond in the rare event that they are helping results in some FakeLocke harassment. BUT THANKFULLY THEY ARE ABLE TO GO BACK TO BEING THEIR AWESOME HOMELIFIN' SELVES when Desmond gets the hell out of there. I WAS SO SCARED FOR THEM THOUGH. Especially after FakeLocke's cutting of the stranger bitch Liz Lemon.
Then omg so cute Ben getting love calls and hiding them from FakeLocke. And it's Miles and RICHARD IS ALIVE OH GLORIOUS DAY and this finale basically turned the ONTD Lost comm into the Miles and Richard OTP comm which I am all for.
JULIET VISITING SUN AND JIN FUCK YES. I love how her showing them their baby is what makes them both remember. Though ... uh. SUPER SAD STILL BECAUSE OF THINGS GONE INTO WHEN I AM DONE WITH THIS SUMMARY BUT OH GOD. ;_; T-the whole montage of the two of them when they both remember had me close to tears. I did lol though because after they remember they're both speaking English again. WHICH IS NORMAL since Jin learned! And I lol'd at Juliet's reaction like "wtf I thought you guys couldn't speak it." BUT JIN HAS NO ACCENT FOR HIS ENGLISH WHICH IS WHAT AND IDEK.
AND THEN AS IF MY HEART IS NOT AFLUTTER ENOUGH FROM RICHARD BEING ALIVE. LAPIDUS IS ALIVE TOO! OH MY CHESTY MANLY LAPENIS. ♥♥ Now we have Miles Richard and LaPenis but SADLY NO BEN because that foursome was my dream. B-but before they find LaPenis was the Miles and Richard moment when you find out RICHARD IS AGING AGAIN AHHHHHHHHHH. Miles just, goes LOL WELCOME TO THE CLUB and yanks a gray hair from Richard's head. And then RICHARD'S REACTION looking at it and then smiling and "I think I just realized I want to live." gkljklgjdkl ♥
Kate trying to shoot FakeLocke, and then he goes "you might want to save your bullets." WHICH IS THE BEST LINE EVER FOR SOMETHING LATER.
And then the anguishing question of BUT WHO WAS MOM is answered in the alt. Jack's son's baby mama is JULIET. His son David just basically popped up in the alt since ... it's the alt! MORE ON THAT LATER.
MEANWHILE IN MAGICAL PEE WATER CAVERN, FakeLocke and Jack tie up Desmond and toss his ass down there. But not before Desmond is just like Jack if I go down there I'm just gonna disappear somewhere else and it'll be with everybody that we love, and not have to think about the island again! SO DES KNOWS ABOUT THIS ALT. But Jack is like dude whatever happened happened, WHICH IS A SCENE THAT IS JUST ... SO POWERFUL FOR WHAT YOU FIND OUT THE END IS. Omg I love Jack and Desmond. And then lol FakeLocke and Jack after lowering him. AND THEY ARE BOTH STARING DOWN INTO THE CAVERN AND IT IS THE SAME SHOT AT THE END OF SEASON 1 WITH THE HATCH AND JKWEHFKS.
Alt Hurley forces Sayid to meet Shannon which is their ~TRUE LOVE MEMORY AWAKENING~ thing. Which, even though it makes sense, I am still :|a about. At first I was totally meh because Shannon was like a blip in the series. And so much of Sayid's thing in the series, in the past present and the alt were focused SO MUCH on Nadia that when Sayid gets all I JUST WANT TO SEE THE WOMAN I LOVE AGAIN you'd assume her. So when it was Shannon it was very ???? I've heard a lot of talk on the subject and I agree that it is more believable when you think about how Nadia was also tied into the past Sayid could never seem to escape while Shannon gave him a chance to really start over and not be linked to something that brings up his dark past. Also random Boone there like "lol hay guys."
When crazy ass Claire came up to the hot sexy ass trio I got SO SCARED FOR RICHARD AGAIN IT WAS LIKE THE WRITERS PURPOSELY PLAY WITH MY HEART. Because of how he is GLARINGLY MORTAL NOW and slowly going up to Claire who has her GUN READY AND BITCH IS CRAYCRAY like girl calm down. I thought it was ADORABLE how Richard tried to talk to her though. IT WAS SO HEARTWARMING.
Alt Charlotte waking Charlie up was just so random and lolworthy because of Hurley's note on his unconscious body. "BASS PLAYER: wake me up for the show." And then her meeting Daniel after that. HE GETS ALL "I KNOW HER BUT..." and they shake hands but NOTHING HAPPENS and then they go on their merry way. Then Eloise talks to Desmond about not wanting him to do this (the whole island memory awakening) and "are you going ... to take my son?" And her voice there and THERE IS REASON FOR THIS TOO AND AUGH and Desmond going "not with me, no." BUT WHERE ARE THEY GOING WHERE ARE THEY "LEAVING" TO ACCORDING TO DES?!
THEN CLAIRE BAYBEH IN THE ALT and I love how basically her vagina is what wakes Kate up. ALT THEM ARE GONNA BE LIKE AARON'S TWO AWESOME SEXY MAMAS TOGETHER it will be adorable. And then after Aaron is born Charlie pops up and HE remembers and it is just such an adorable scene. ESPECIALLY BECAUSE OF HOW LONG IT'S BEEN SINCE HE DIED BAWWW.
Then Desmond + bad CGI pulling the island plug which makes FakeLocke killable finally. AND THEN EPIC RAINY CLIFFBATTLE SCENE BETWEEN THEM and Jack gets all Mortal Kombat on him with JUMPING FLYING PUNCHES AS THE ISLAND STARTS TO CRUMBLE. AND MEANWHILE BEN PUSHES HURLEY OUT OF THE WAY OF A FALLEN TREE AND GETS STUCK UNDER IT (BEST FORESHADOWING EVER) OH BEN SOBRAVE and at first I FREAKED THE FUCK OUT HERE because if Ben was dying I was crying. BUT THANKFULLY THAT WAS NOT THE CASE \o/
So they catch up to the EPIC CLIFF FIGHT and when FakeLocke told Kate "you might want to save your bullets" LOL BITCH SHOOTS HIM AND GOES "I SAVED YOU A BULLET :|" Then in an AWESOME CIRCLE. Jack, like FakeLocke did to Jacob, kicks him doooooown to his death.
Alt Locke wakes up from surgery and ... just him/walking OTP man he feels his legs and wiggles his toes and WE GET THE PILOT EPISODE FLASH OF HIM FIRST REALIZING AND AHHHHH LOCKE ILU. And alt Jack as usual lol MEMORIES TRYING TO GET YOU BUT YOU ARE SO STUBBORN. And Locke being like BUT YOU DON'T HAVE A SON JACK. POOR ALT DAVID. But omg original Locke's adorable sweet smile sdjklfklfhsjfsjkl.
Alt Sawyer still doesn't have his memories back and when he goes to bodyguard Jin and Sun ... THEIR GIANT HAPPY SMILES AT HIM OH MY GOD ADORABLE. He is just like u-uh what and they are just like :DDDDDDDD. It is super cute esp for Jin because of the whole 70s Dharma parties they had together! ;_;
And then lol Miles LaPenis and Richard trying to get the Ajira plane ready. LAPENIS GETTING THE WALKIE CALLS FROM BEN AND GOING "DON'T BOTHER ME >(((" AND HANGING UP ON THEM ROFL. Ben is just like "... sounds like they're making progress." And then sob Jack saying he has to go fix the plug Desmond took out to fix the quickly crumbling island and telling the rest of them they have to be on that plane and get out. Basically KATE AND JACK RABU RABU FOREVER MOMENT. And shaking Sawyer's hand and omg after all the stuff between them it was so very "omg this is it and it's so perfect! ;;" BUT THEN HURLEY NOT LEAVING JACK'S SIDE WAS THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER. And Ben's "if the island's going down I'm going down with it." So Kate and Sawyer rush to the other island to meet up with the sexy plane guys, while we have the oddest but GREATEST team of Jack, Hurley and Ben head back to the heart of the island.
Then Miles' "I don't believe in a lot of things. But I DO believe in duct tape." ♥♥ And Sawyer calling up on the walkie again like "HEY CHESTY" and LaPenis is STILL just like "YEAH OK WE'RE LEAVING SO GET YOUR ASSES OVER HERE [THROWS WALKIE!!1!]"
AND THEN ALT SAWYER AND JULIET AHHHHHHH. That scene was amazing and it starts out SO DOOFY with Sawyer caught with his hand in the vending machine. And the candy bar and the CONTACT AND MEMORY FLASHES and the EXPRESSIONS WHEN JULIET'S DEATH FLASHES and omg. "YOU GOT IT BLONDIE."
Then alt Kate and Jack meeting. And Kate's "I've missed you so much." and Jack's STILL resisting the flashes. And Kate talks him into coming with her to help him remember and figure out what's going on here.
THE AWESOME TRIO make it back to the magical pee water heart of the island,and omg BEST. SCENE. EVER. Jack basically tells Hurley he's not planning on coming out alive, and Hurley is like D: I AM NOT LETTING YOU DIE YOU SAID YOU'D PROTECT THE ISLAND. And Jack's THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I AM DOING THIS HAS TO HAPPEN and Hurley the island needs you. SO BASICALLY HE IS PASSING ON THE RITE TO HURLEY. TO HURLEY ALL OF MY DREAMS COMING TRUE. And Hurley's crying in this scene and him and Jack sdjkfafhjk it was so heartwatming and heartbreaking at the same time. And Ben is just kind of ... watching this all. BEN, MISTER BASICALLY YOU ARE WORTHLESS IN THE SCHEME OF PROTECTING OR RULING THE ISLAND DESPITE ALL OF YOUR TIME AND LOVE HERE HUR HUR.
Jack gets lowered into the cavern, finds Desmond, and basically ties him to the rope to Hurley and Ben pull him up instead. But not without Jack returning the sentiment "I'll see you in another life, brotha'." omggggg. ;;
Kate and Sawyer find Claire who doesn't want to leave with them because it's been so long and Aaron doesn't know her and how can she ever be a mother because the island literally made her crazy (GURL AT LEAST YOU CAN ADMIT IT) and Kate is basically like let's have a My Two Dads spinoff only with moms. MEANWHILE LAPENIS IS READY TO LAUNCH and calling Richard RICKY BOY. ♥
AND THE PLANE TAKES OFF just as Jack plugs the giant island cork thing back in. EPIC SCENE WITH AWESOME MUSIC. Jack is still all BLARGH I AM DYING as Hurley and Ben pull Desmond up. And yell for Jack when they realize it's not him. Magical light and magical glowing pee water start to flow again as Jack lies in the middle of the pond. The water flows on Jack who is just lying in there laughing, almost deliriously so. Props to Foxy.
IN THE ALT Locke gets out of a cab and into a wheelchair. He's in front of a church and rolls by Ben. Ben basically apologizes for everything he's done to Locke. Admits he was jealous because Locke was special and he wasn't. Then Locke is like if it helps, I forgive you. A-and Ben is like THAT DOES HELP IT MATTERS MORE THAN I CAN SAY. Then he says he has some things to work out still, so he'll stay outside for a while along instead of join everyone inside the church. Then remarks that Locke doesn't need that chair anymore. LOCKE STANDS ansdjkfhasjkfhsdjka and heads into the church. ;;
Back on the island, this was the greatest scene ever. With Desmond up, Ben helps him out as best as he can, while Hurley is just staring into the pee water cavern all sad. AND THE FOLLOWING CONVO TAKES PLACE BETWEEN HURLEY AND BEN.
"Jack's gone ... isn't he."
"... [nods]"
"[starts crying OH GOD IT'S SO HEARTBREAKING]"
"--he did his job, Hugo."
"It's my job now. What the hell am I supposed to do?!"
"... I think you do what you do best. Take care of people. You can start by helping Desmond get home."
"But how? People can't leave the island."
"That's how Jacob ran things. Maybe there's another way. A better way."
"... Will you help me?"
"[BEN GIVES HIM THIS LOOK LIKE ALL OF HIS ARE ABOUT TO COME TRUE] I'm sorry?"
"Could really use someone with like ... experience. For a little while. So will you help me, Ben?"
"[OH GOD ALL OF BEN'S DREAMS ARE COMING TRUE IN THIS MOMENT] I'd be honored."
"... Cool."
SO BASICALLY BEN AND HURLEY ARE GOING TO RULE THE ISLAND TOGETHER AND HAVE AWESOME HAM AND HOT POCKET SHENANIGANS. I MEAN FUCK YOU CAN'T EVEN FULLY IMAGINE THE KIND OF GREAT SHIT YOU WILL GET FROM THESE TWO?! BEN WITH HIS ... NERD BEN-NESS AND HURLEY MAKING HIM WATCH STAR WARS. OH MY GOD THESE TWO NEED A SPINOFF. When the last season comes out on DVD IT'S BEEN CONFIRMED THERE IS LIKE A 15 MINUTE THING WITH THEM POST-FINALE AND I NEED TO SEE THIS LIKE I NEED TO BREATHE.
BACK TO THE ALT Ben is still in front of the church. And Hurley looks out and sees him like "oh hey dude we're all inside." and Ben declines. But before going back in Hurley goes "... you know. You were really good number two." "And you were a great number one, Hugo." ejkfhjkhsjk
ALT JACK AND KATE PULL UP TO THE CHURCH. And Jack is all this is where I was going to have my father's funeral why did you bring me here?" "Because this is where you were going to have your father's funeral." Kate tells him everyone is inside when he's ready to leave.
Island Jack somehow made it out of the pee caves, wakes up all bloody and dying on a rock. Starts making his way somewhere.
Alt Jack goes inside, touches his father's coffin, and all of the island memories come flooding back to him. He opens the coffin and it's empty. "Hey kiddo." lol daddy standing there behind him.
"I don't understand. You died. Then how are you here right now?"
"How are you here?"
Jack pauses, reflects. "I died, too." Starts to cry, and oh my God by this time I am in tears because of how much I wanted to hug Jack (SERIOUSLY THE LAST FEW EPS HE GOT SO FUCKING AWESOME)
Christian just goes "It's okay." and they hug and I LOVE YOUs and jsdfhasjkf Jack sobbing. And then his ARE YOU REAL.
"I'm real. You're real. Everything that's ever happened to you is real. All those people in the church, they're real, too."
"... They're all dead?"
"Everyone dies sometime, kiddo. Some of them before you, some long after you."
"Why are they all here now?"
"Well there is no 'now', 'here.'"
"Where are we, dad?"
"This is a place that you all made together, so that you could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people. That's why all of you are here. Nobody does it alone, Jack. You needed all of them, and they needed you."
"For what?"
"To remember. And ... let go."
"Kate ... she said we were leaving."
"Not leaving, no. Moving on."
"Where are we going?"
"Let's go find out."
And they go into the church where everybody is. Greeting, hugging, epic music, happy times. Old and familiar faces, Rose Bernard Locke Sawyer Sayid Kate Claire Aaron Charlie Hurley Boone Shannon Sun Jin Juliet Libby Desmond Penny. Jack walks toward them.
ISLAND JACK is still walking through the forest, hunched over, trekking on.
"Alt" Locke comes up to Jack. "We've been waiting for you." More hugs and another island Jack walking flash.
Finally (OH SOB) we see Jack in the bamboo forest he first woke up in in the very first episode (I already guessed how it was ending here and CRIED SO MUCH MORE THAN I ALREADY WAS), you see the white tennis shoe still hanging there. MORE ALT HUGS AND KATE RABU. They all sit down in the church as island Jack slowly sinks and lies in the same spot he woke up at the very start of it all.
Alt everyone else sits down as poor island Jack is like dying. He hears something, and just like in the Pilot, Vincent comes out of the forest. Jack laughs, he gets Vincentkisses. Then Vincent just ... lies down next to Jack quietly sdfjakfhasjkfak. Jack looks up into the sky.
Alt Christian gives Jack a shoulder hold, and then walks to the doors of the church, opening them up to nothing but light that slowly spreads and engulfs them all, as they all hug, smile, generally be happy that they found each other all again. The camera pans out on island Jack and Vincent, and the Ajira plane with everyone on board flows overhead. Jack knows now that they all made it, so he laughs a little, and it's just this ... almost SOBBING laugh. Alt Jack looks peaceful as the light engulfs him, just as on the island, you get one close up shot of Jack's eye, closing.

And I just love the credits. It's complete silence, just showing the original set of the crash to give that finality feeling.
And here is the HURLEY AND BEN BEST EVER SCENE
AND MY THOUGHTS NOW. I was just a ball of djkhgsdjk through the entire thing. I want a Richard and Miles growing old together and being snarky spinoff. Especially because Richard is like CENTURIES OLD Miles needs to like. Show him the ropes of livin' the 20th century life. They can get visits from LaPenis and go on vacations to the island because Hurley will let them in and they can all party with him and Ben sometimes. And Rose and Bernard too since they're still there.
SEE WITH HURLEY AND BEN ROSE BERNARD AND VINCENT that right there is sitcom ammo. I really cannot wait to see all the extra stuff on the DVD about Hurley and Ben!! BEST ISLAND RULERS EVER. I just love Ben ajksdhfkjas.
NOW THE WHOLE ENDING. So like Christian said, everything that happened was real. The island was real and it was there and everything that happened happened. The alt was the form of purgatory where they all waited for one another. WHAT I THINK OF THIS IS ... I think it was a better way to go? The alternative to that was the merging of the timelines. Which had one of two outcomes. Island life or Alt life. So stuff like Jin and Sun DYING, as depressing and NOOOO as it was, would have seemed a lot more cheapened if it were just a case of "oh well lol they're alive in the alt with their island memories now so it doesn't matter that they died." A lot of people expected something like this. and I'm glad they didn't go that route because it WOULD have really cheapened things like the deaths on the island timeline.
In a way Darlton kept their word. They said the island was NOT purgatory, 100%. And it's ... not! Even though it's still in the series in the form of the alt. I thought that tricky and clever.
Kate et all on the Ajira plane made it. And with Christian's "some died long after you" as well as Kate's "I've missed you SO much." to Jack ... she went back home and lived life after that, missing him. ;; Also with Hurley and Ben's exchange in the alt. "You were a good number two/one" is basically saying after that they went on to rule the island awesomely for who knows how long after that.
I love that not EVERYONE was in the church at the end, too. Ben stayed outside, since while Hurley invited him in, and the rest of them would not have minded because of how things wound up being. Ben has a LOT more to deal with. And I think he's waiting for Alex to move on himself. He really needs to resolve what he did in life that resulted in her dying like that.
I loved Eloise's talk with Desmond in the alt there, too. They didn't go with them, and Desmond knew not to interfere. Daniel can't go until Eloise is finished dealing with her issues. Which are PRETTY BIG ISSUES considering she basically knew she was setting up for his death by her own (younger) self years later, and going through with it regardless. So that is probably why Daniel and Charlotte seemed close to remembering, but not quite yet. Because they're their own group that needs to deal and move on together.
What I also really liked was David's existence in the alt, which basically served as ways for Jack to deal with his father issues in order to be able to move on.
What DEPRESSES THE FUCK OUT OF ME about the alt is that it was basically not a second chance or anything. Meaning everything that happened in the series happened. Including things like Sun and Jin dying and their daughter having NO PARENTS, and most tragically for many Lost fans, John Locke's life basically sucking the biggest dick ever. Seriously, Locke is one of the most amazing and tragic characters ever. So many Lost fans, regardless of who their favorites are, seem to agree on this. He was always such a fascinating character, and I loved, I LOVED how Jack basically redeemed everything in his name at the end. Dissing Smokey for wearing his face, knowing he was right all along. It's still so surreal to think that we actually haven't had Locke on the island since the end of season 4. HE'S BEEN DEAD SINCE. And that just makes me :(. THAT THE ALT WASN'T ANOTHER AWESOME LIFE HE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE WIN IN.
Also the thought of Rose and Bernard (or Hurley and Ben OR HELL ALL OF THEM) possibly finding/burying Jack after the end. ;_;
A lot of people are wondering about lack of many other characters in the end there. And lol Lost idk. I CAN ONLY GUESS ABOUT FARADAY AND BEN AND THEIR GROUPS. Though I hope we get some answers when the 6th season DVD comes out since they DID film something with Walt that wasn't in the finale that they're gonna include.
People also wonder about everyone else in the alt who were there on the side. But I more saw that as what Christian was explaining to Jack? "This is a place that you all made together, so that you could find one another." That the environment was basically where they would have been if the plane never crashed, but the people I saw more as not there and looking to move on with them, but more part of this whole 'thing' they all created to find each other. Since they all shared the experiences together, so the familiar faces like Keamy and stuff were there as well as more part of the help, rather than being others that needed the help. Basically NPCs.
I just. Oh God this post is so long already and I am probably FORGETTING THINGS. That whole ending sequence with Jack. And Vincent staying with him and you flashback to the whole "live together die alone" and realize Jack is not dying alone which would have been the saddest thing ever, it was just ... beyond perfect. I can't even put it all into words. You can watch it over and over and it will hit you emotionally every time. The last five years have been so much fun in so many ways, and I am so happy I got to be a part of it all. It's been an amazing journey, and you never want it to be over, but I'm content. A little sad that it's done, but the absolutely amazing ride through it all is enough to make that okay.
