So today when I left the hospital and got off the train near home, I walked up the next block over and passed my old elementary school. It was around 5:30 so the afterschool program was probably coming in from the park - since when it's nice out they always take the kids out, even when I was there (but I never went to the program since I lived 2 blocks away from the school).
And as he headed the afterschool program back when I was there, and quite possibly my sister Joanne too, Mr. Marceau was outside directing the kids back inside. So I stopped and said hi. It took him a sec to remember my name since jeeze, I graduated back in 99, and it was pretty cool. He said he sees my mom around the neighborhood sometimes and I was like yeah we still live in the same place. Mentioned Joanne's pregnancy to him since she was his faaaavorite student ever, he asked what was goin' on with everything and yeah. It was short, but awesome.
It felt nice, if not still awkward, sucking it up and chatting it up. Probably because all of my teachers there also remembered me as the quiet timid little thing, even though during 5th - 8th grade I kind of started growing out of that, but not entirely so, so. He was my 7th grade teacher, and the general math teacher for the 5th - 8th graders. He was a hilarious teacher too. He used to throw erasers and shit at people and make the best jokes.
He liked me! Because I was nothing like my sister when he had her. She hated math and was a giant bitch and used to curse at him and throw her books on the floor and stuff. He was surprised to hear years later that my sister was like a math genius and her work dealt with all that kind of stuff.
And now I'm all nostalgic and stuff, from there and from high-school, too. It's also funny cause the only piece of jewelery I wear is my graduation ring from that school in 99. Which is like 8 years now, and it's crazy because if I take it off when I go swimming or something (or like the time it somehow fell off of my hand when I was sleeping) it feels so weird without it. Since I nudge it with my pinky all the time since it's kind of loose. I have one of those things that you put on the bottom of the ring to keep it secure, though.
I'm gonna do some chillaxing at the end of July when I see how much extra money I have, since I haven't seen Lisa in forever and the last time she contacted me to do something I unfortunately couldn't make it. I'm gonna see if she has all those pictures from high school somewhere on her computer or a disc to copy for me, too. Since I don't have them and they were fabulous because we were the coolest people ever.
But, yeah! That small chat with Mr. Marceau took all of two minutes but I'm in such a good mood now.
